Alhamdulillah. Things has been great. Let me recap on what happened on 22nd November 2017. I was invited to Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, in Perak. Standing before 200 students sharing my aspirations and inspirations from the morning really made me alive.
It was an initiative from Student under the program of “Usahawan Siswa” which mostly participated by students from the Faculty of Education. I was invited as a speaker for STEP (Student Entrepreneurship Excellent Program) with collaboration of SSM & PNS. Honestly, I felt that I did my part to let them know how important to be having a work life balance.
Rushed back to KL on same day to prepare myself on my slot for “The Halal Lifestyle” which was organized by MIM. I have chosen the topic: Harnessing Talents in Entrepreneurship. Let me share some photos from the event.
Let’s get back to reality of talent. Talent is very important human resource. Great talent sometimes hide underneath the personality just like pearl. By getting the right coach, it will bring to endless possibilities and unleash their potential.
Why harnessing talent in Entrepreneurship is important?
1. Create more business opportunities, build strong foundation and make it grow
2. Creates jobs opportunities & choices to the open market – open door to customers for more selection and more people to hire, in return gauge support from them
3. Revitalize economy – from small scale business to bigger capital business, it will create more positive household income and bridging gap on community and development
4. It is a gem that complete an organization to reach the peak. It requires set of multi-talents, unique and powerful talent to continue harnessing talents within the organization
Becoming a mentor, it is never an easy task. It requires hard works, effort and research. It takes two to tango. Let me share my personal tips as Work Life Balance advocator to anyone with authority to deal with talents under their supervision :
• Structured System – Strategize your game & master it. System will organize your time and priority better
• Be a mentor – Find an apprentice, work together, complement each other skill set and let the game begin
• Have an open-door policy – Open-door means attachment. Attach professionally, be fair and give courage and supportive when required. Never condemn.
• Give your employees working hour’s flexibility – Happy staff brings loyalty. Loyalty means saving cost on new hiring and time spend on every talent. Focus more on the growing more opportunities rather than training talents
• Advocate work life balance – Always emphasize work life balance. Life matters.
• Coach them and give them one-on-one sessions – Consistent coaching, keep track on their progress and challenge them, but do not micro-manage
I love being surrounded by young, millennials talent. They have a long journey to go and creating more opportunities. But, always remember : Innate talent is not guarantee for success. True success cannot be bought with talent alone. It is co-related.
So, let just sum up – talent is not impossible to find. How you see the potentials and optimizing opportunities makes different.
Until then, we’ll see each other again.
